Sri Lanka is a one of the best places in the world to see whales. The most famous and best spot to do a whale watching tour is Mirissa, on the south coast of the island an easy 40 minute drive east of Galle. The whale watching season in Mirissa is between December and April, as it is in Bentota and Kalpitiya on the west coast. If you’re travelling during the summer, between May and September, then whale watching is in season on the east coast and can be arranged from your beach hotels around Trincomalee and Passikudah. We work with trusted local operators and can arrange both private and shared boat trips – some of the private boats even have their own kitchen and chef who will prepare a delicious breakfast for you on-board. You have the best chance of seeing whales early in the morning and the tours usually last for around 3 hours.
