Antananarivo is the capital city of Madagascar, in the island’s Central Highlands. Overlooking the city, the Rova of Antananarivo palace complex was the center of the Merina kingdom from the 17th century. It features wooden houses and royal tombs. The pink baroque Andafiavaratra Palace sits in the nearby Haute Ville neighborhood. In the city center, heart-shaped Lake Anosy is ringed by jacaranda trees.
Day 01 Arrive Antananarivo
Arrival at Ivato international airport meet assist and transfer to the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02 Antananarivo – Antsirabe(By Road) (169 Kms / 03 hrs 30 min appx.)
After breakfast, drive to the Lemurs’ park which is located 25 km of the capital city for a visit, 9 species of lemurs are jumping around freely. After the visit drive to Antsirabe through a landscape composed mainly of mountains and rice fields . Tour of the “Town of Water”: so called because of its numerous thermal springs and the existence of two crater lakes. Visit of a workshop where they make miniatures from recycled materials. Overnight at hotel.
Day 03 Antsirabe – Ranomafana(By Road)(240 Kms / 05 hrs appx.)
After breakfast, drive to Ranomafana. – Stop in Ambositra for the visit of some Zafimaniry handicrafts centres: woodcarving. Continuation to Ranomafana. Check in at the hotel. Night walk along the road to try to see the nocturnal species of lemurs (mouse lemurs) and perhaps fossa (the Malagasy “Puma”). Back to the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04 Ranomafana – Fianarantsoa(By Road)(85 Kms / 01 hrs 30 min appx.)
After breakfast, morning visit of the around 40’000 Hectares big rainforest Ranomafana national park which is home to various species of lemurs such as the golden bamboo lemurs, brown lemurs, birds, chameleons, frogs, varieties of orchids and medicinal plants. After lunch, off to Fianarantsoa – the capital of the Betsileo tribe. Overnight at hotel.
Day 05 Fianarantsoa – Ranohira (By Road)(295 Kms / 05 hrs 30 min appx.)
After breakfast, early departure to Ranohira. Stop in Ambalavao – the commercial centre of the southern Betsileo region, renowned for its folks, arts and crafts – to visit the “Antemoro Paper” factory (visit not possible on Sundays). This paper is a delicate, handmade, flower-decorated paper made of the fibres of the tree called “Avoha”. Another stop 12km after Ambalavao for visiting a small reserve to observe Ring-tailed Lemurs ( Lemur catta ) in their natural surroundings. Continuation to Ranohira. Overnight at hotel.
Day 06 Ranohira
After breakfast, morning trek inside the Isalo National Park to discover the massif of Isalo, its ruinlike sandstones, canyons, endemic fauna and flora (Lemurs and endemic plants such as Pachypodiums, aloes). Back to the hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 07 Ranohira – Tulear – Ifaty (By Road)(267 Kms / 05 hrs 30 min appx.)
After breakfast, off to Tulear along a straight road. The landscape is composed of dry forests, baobabs and some proudly decorated Mahafaly tombs. Arrival at Tulear visit of the Arboretum with many species of endemic plants. Switch over to 4wd car and transfer to Ifaty –a seaside resort protected by a coral reef, on sandy road and through spiny bush. Overnight at hotel.
Day 08 Ifaty
After breakfast, day free for leisure at the beach, or a walk to the nearby fishermen village, or an optional visit of the Reniala reserve with its Baobab Trees, birds etc. Overnight at hotel.
Day 09 Ifaty–Tulear (27 Kms/1H 30M appx)/Tulear–Antananarivo(By Flight)
After breakfast, relax on the beach then transfer to the airport and flight to the capital city of Madagascar. Meeting at the airport. Overnight at hotel.
Day 10 Depart Antananarivo
In the morning, excursion to Ambohimanga – a King‘s palace, 21km north of the city (UNESCO World heritage site). In the afternoon visit of the handcrafts market to buy some souvenirs. Day use at a hotel. Then transfer to the airport for catch the flight. Departure transfer to onward destination.
