Bilbao, an industrial port city in northern Spain, is surrounded by green mountains. It’s the de facto capital of Basque Country, with a skyscraper-filled downtown. It’s famed for the Frank Gehry–designed Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, which sparked revitalization when it opened in 1997. The museum houses prominent modern and contemporary works, but it’s the curvy, titanium-clad building that receives the most attention.
Day 01 Madrid – Burgos (By Road) (245 Km / 2H 43M appx.)
Arrival at Madrid airport, meet assist and transfer to the Hotel. If time available, we suggest a short stop for walk in exceptional main square from XVIIth century (here we connect with St James’ Path way). Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 02 Burgos
After breakfast, Proceed to guided city tour We will visit a medieval village, which still maintains its original structure and in particular its cathedral, perhaps the best of Gothic Spain. Even a visit to the Cartuja (Charterhouse). Afternoon excursion to nice village, with middle age atmosphere in its streets. After we will visit Monastery (very important in middle age as center of wisdom and culture). Presently it is one of the few places in the world where you can enjoy Gregorian Chants, a ‘must’ for classic music lovers (timetable depends on season and day of the week). Return to the hotel. Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 03 Burgos – Bilbao (By Road) (158 Km / 1H 35M appx.)
After breakfast, Proceed to San Sebastian. This city is located in a privileged position, along a white sandy bay between two hills. The old town is situated near the picturesque harbor. (It is possible and we suggest a guided tour). Continuation to Bilbao. A suggestion in the way to Bilbao if you leave the highway exit to Zarautz’, and take direction to Guetaria, 3 kms before Guetaria the road is like a balcony over and spectacular wild sea panorama. Magnificent 30 minutes walk, Guetaria is one of the few real fisher ports still in use. Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 04 Bilbao – Santillana (By Road) (127 Km / 1H 23M appx.)
After breakfast Proceed to The old town is full of very narrow features streets. The Guggenheim Museum of modern art has become the symbol of the city thanks to its cutting-edge architecture (It is possible, and we suggest it, a guided tour). For centuries was the port of Castilla products wool, wheat. It was the summer royal residence at the beginning of the XXth century, some superb palaces as Palacio Magdalena have remained as a summer university The whole village is considered National monument, and we will enjoy walking Its cobblestone streets lined with stone houses, decorated with half-timbered supports, balconies, balustrades and heraldic shields. Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 05 Santillana – Leon (By Road) (248 Km / 2H 30M appx.)
After breakfast Proceed to We will drive along the nice panoramic coast road. Fisher port, old stone houses and a sensational Gaudi Modernist palace (end XIXth century) Nice panoramic view over the fisher port and village. Afternoon guided city tour, we will visit its splendid cathedral and pre-Romanic churches, Santa Maria del Naranco e San Miguel de Lillo. In the middle years of the Christian kingdom, this city became the capital. It is full of historical remains. Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 06 Leon – Avila (By Road) (264 Km / 2H 37M appx.)
After breakfast Proceed to In the morning, guided tour, with its splendid Gothic cathedral, with its beautiful stained-glass windows and superb chapel of St. Isidoro. Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 07 Avila – Madrid (By Road) (108 Km / 1H 17M appx.)
After breakfast Proceed to visit the Cathedral and its impressive wall perfectly preserved around the middle age downtown. Then we will travel to the near (67 kms, 50 minutes) Segovia, guided city tour to visit the Alcazar, Cathedral and to remain amazed with the best preserved roman aqueduct on the world. Continue to Madrid. Overnight at the Hotel.
Day 08 Depart Madrid
