This spectacular multi-day trek in the Annapurna Conservation Area north of Pokhara is a rewarding experience for keen walkers wanting to get within touching distance of the Himalayas loftiest peaks. This well-established trekking route is lined with comfortable teahouses and restaurants run by welcoming locals, making the day to day trekking enjoyable and surprisingly comfortable. The first two days are relatively easy with just 4-5 hours walking per day. The trail takes you from the lowland village of Nayapul takes you past farmsteads and small communities, then through dense rhododendron and cloud forest teeming with birdlife to the mountain village of Ghorepani located at 2850m. From here you trek up to Poon Hill for sunrise, a viewpoint high above Ghorepani at an altitude of 3,193m. On a clear morning you will see the sunrise over a panorama of Himalayan peaks including Dhaulagiri, the Annapurna range, Nilgiri, Tukuche and many other snow-capped mountains in the distance. The trek continues to the spectacular viewpoint at Gurung Hill, then follows the Modi River through pine and rhododendron forests, with views of some spectacular gorges and cliffs. The final night is spent in Ghandruk, is one of the most appealing villages in the whole Annapurna region, set at an altitude of just 1980m overlooking the lush farmlands of the Modi Khola Valley. Ghandruk is an important Gurung village famous for producing a significant number of Gorkha soldiers. There are plenty of local restaurants lining the trekking trail allowing regular stops for a cup of tea or other refreshments.
