One of Panama’s key attractions is its diversity, and some of the top attractions in addition to the canal – are the capital of Panama City, Panama Viejo, Casco Antiguo (also known as Casco Viejo) and the jungles surrounding the canal area. Panama City, easily the most cosmopolitan capital in Central America, is a modern, sophisticated metropolis that closely resembles Miami and has established commerce, arts, fashion and dining.
Day 01 Arrive Panama By Flight
Arrival at Tocumen International Airport meet assist and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 02 Panama
After breakfast, proceed to Reprosa Jewelry factory where reproduction of pre – Colombian pieces as well as original are created using the lost wax casting method. Then continue to visit the ruins of the old city Panama Viejo, sacked by Henry Morgan in 1671 and declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Panama Viejo was founded in 1519 as the first Spanish city on the American Pacific. The city later became an important commercial center from where large amounts of gold were transported to the Caribbean coast to be shipped to Europe. In 1673 a second city was built in a more protected location which is today known as Casco Antiguo, was also declared World Heritage Site due to its many historic features, such as the golden altar, the French Plaza, “Las Bovedas” dungeons, Plaza Bolivar, Parque Central and the old churches, cobbled streets and wide balconies. Day 03 Panama
After breakfast, proceed to visit the Amador Causeway from where you can see the Bridge of the Americas, Taboga Island and the buoys marking the canal’s waterway. The Causeway was constructed by connecting the three islands of Naos, Perico and Flamenco using material excavated from the Panama Canal. We will visit the BioMuseum, design by Frank Gehry and his only work in Latin America. The permanent exhibition is titled Panama: Bridge of Life. Eigh galleries and eight “artifacts amazement” tell us the origin of the Isthmus of Panama and its huge impact on biodiversity, it represents Central America nation’s rich diverse ecosystems. One of the most interesting sites on this tour are the Miraflores Locks of the Panama Canal where you will witness the raising or lowering of a ship as it passes through this impressive engineering feat completed in 1914. The Miraflores Visitors Center also contains a Canal Museum which holds information on its history from the first construction efforts by the French to its upcoming expansion. Overnight at hotel.
Day 04 Panama-David (By Flight)/David -Volcan (65 kms/ 1H 30M appx.)
After breakfast, proceed to Marcos A. Gelabert domestic airport for your one hour flight to David, Chiriqui. At your arrival, pick up and transfer to Volcan Chiriqui. Overnight at hotel.
Day 05 Volcan
After breakfast, proceed to engage on a short 2.2km loop trail of moderate difficulty that takes you through riparian habitat into mature 2nd growth forest and then into primary forest as you skirt the base of Mount Totumas. Majestic mature oak trees and bamboo understory. One of our better trails to spot Resplendent Quetzals and Black Guans. The short section of the trail leads you through a section of the reserve we are reforesting that was previously pasture. Overnight at hotel.
Day 06 Volcan
After breakfast, proceed to transition from mature 2nd growth forest to primary forest. If you are lucky enough you will get the chance to spot of any of the three monkey species, quetzals, trogons, bellbirds, coati’s and tracks of big cats. The section with primary forest has stunning ancient trees that create cathedral acoustics where the song of the Black Faced Solitaire invariabally inspires the listener. Overnight at hotel.
Day 07 Volcan – Boquete By Road 86 kms / 1H 55M appx.
After breakfast, proceed to Boquete. At your arrival you do some visit before going to the hotel as visiting Mi Jardin es tu jardin ¨My garden is your garden to see different plants and flowers and do some panoramic route around the town also you will visit a coffee farm. Panama’s coffee has been considered to be the best coffee in the world for 3 years in row. Chiriqui, is the coffee province where the mayority of the plantation of coffee is produce. You will experience a complete coffee tour through their coffee farms, processing factories, roasting plants and tasting facilities. You will learn everything about coffee process, from when the coffee tree is planted and start growing, until the way coffee is brewed for you to drink it. You will be able to appreciate the importance of the Ngöbe Buglé indigenous that hand pick the red coffee berries when they are perfectly ripe. You will also have a glance of the shade grown technique which only allows the precise amount of sun on each coffee tree and protects the environment. And you will end with a cupping, in which you will sample different flavors and roasts. Overnight at hotel.
Day 08 Boquete – Bocas del Toro By Road 205 kms / 3H 42M appx.
After breakfast, proceed to Almirante in Bocas del Toro. In our way we will stop at the Cacao Farm for a visit. Here you get to see how the indigenous people live within the jungle while growing 100% certified organic shade grown cacao and making chocolate with it. The tour is more of a hike through the cacao farms and jungle where the guide goes through the surprisingly difficult process of growing, harvesting, fermenting, drying, roasting, and grinding process. You learn about what makes the farm organic, how the use of trees, plants, and animals help keep the organic system intact and how the indigenous people work within this system to produce some of the worlds finest cacao and chocolate products. The tour includes a traditional Ngobe Indian lunch consisting of local roots and it actually tastes wonderful. We then continue to Almirante. At your arrival you will take a 20 minutes motorized boat that will take you to Isla Colon and where you will be picked up and transfer to your hotel at Bocas del Toro. Overnight at hotel.
Day 09 Bocas del Toro
After breakfast, proceed to experience the Panamanian Caribbean. Enjoy the culture, the nature and the overall beauty of these magical islands. Overnight at hotel.
Day 10 Bocas del Toro
After breakfast, free day at leisure. Overnight at hotel.
